How Much Does a Logo Cost in the UK?

Ask around and you’ll hear logo prices from £5 to £5,000. That range isn’t a scam. You’re paying for very different things. This guide explains what affects the price of a logo in the UK, what each price level usually gets you, and how to avoid paying for a logo you’ll have to replace in a year.

Typical logo design prices in the UK

These are rough ranges, and every designer prices differently:

OptionTypical priceWhat you usually get
Logo generators and AI toolsFree to £50Template-based design, often shared with other businesses
Marketplace freelancers£20 to £150A few concepts, limited revisions, quality varies a lot
Experienced freelancer or small studio£200 to £1,000Research, original concepts, revisions, all file formats
Branding agency£1,500 upwardsFull brand identity, strategy, guidelines

For most small businesses, the middle option gives the best value: a logo designed around your business, ready to use everywhere, without agency overheads.

What affects the cost of a logo?

  • Research and concepts. A designer who looks at your market and competitors and sketches several genuinely different ideas spends more time than one tweaking a template.
  • Revisions. How many rounds of changes are included.
  • File formats. You need vector files (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) for signs, vans and print, plus PNGs for the web. Cheap logos often come as a single low-resolution image.
  • Variations. Full-colour, one-colour, white-out, and stacked and horizontal versions so the logo works on a website header, a social profile and a polo shirt.
  • Brand extras. Colour palette, fonts, a simple brand guide, business cards or social media graphics.
  • Ownership. Make sure you get full rights to use the logo. With some templates and AI tools you can’t trademark the result.

Is a cheap logo ever good enough?

Sometimes. If you’re testing an idea or need something online by Friday, a basic logo can tide you over. The hidden costs come later:

  • It looks like other businesses’ logos, because it’s built from the same templates.
  • It doesn’t work small (on a phone screen) or in one colour (on a van or embroidered).
  • You only have a JPEG, so every printer and sign maker asks for “the proper file”.
  • You end up rebranding, which means paying again and reprinting everything.

What a good logo should do

  • Work at any size, from a favicon to the side of a building.
  • Work in one colour as well as full colour.
  • Be simple and memorable. The best logos can be sketched from memory.
  • Suit your audience. A children’s party company and an accountant need very different looks.
  • Last. Avoid trends that will date in a couple of years.

Questions to ask before you hire a designer

  1. Can I see logos you’ve designed for businesses like mine?
  2. How many concepts and revisions are included?
  3. Which file formats will I receive?
  4. Do I own the copyright once it’s paid for?
  5. Is there a fixed price, or could it go up?
