Hutches and Coops Direct is a trusted UK retailer offering thoughtfully crafted coops and hutches designed to keep pets safe, comfortable, and happy all year round. They needed a modern eCommerce website that showcased their range of chicken coops, rabbit hutches, and accessories while communicating warmth, care, and expertise.

Our goal was to design a seamless, conversion-driven platform that felt approachable yet professional — mirroring the brand’s dedication to animal welfare and customer satisfaction.

The clean, spacious layout helps users easily browse by product type (coops, hutches, runs, and accessories), while subtle illustrations and photography of animals add personality without compromising clarity.
Clear CTAs, informative FAQs, and a welcoming “Contact Us” page build trust and guide visitors smoothly from curiosity to purchase.
Performance and accessibility were top priorities — the site loads quickly, maintains excellent contrast ratios, and offers keyboard and screen-reader compatibility.

Process

We began by identifying the core audience — UK pet owners seeking reliable, easy-to-assemble housing for chickens and rabbits. Wireframes were developed around an intuitive structure with strong visual hierarchy. Once the design language was approved, development focused on responsiveness and loading speed. The SEO setup included schema markup, keyword optimisation, and metadata writing to strengthen the site’s search presence.

Post-launch, we ran performance tests and accessibility audits to ensure a smooth and inclusive experience for all users.

The Look

Category pages use a price slider, stock toggle and power/seat selectors to streamline browsing, while PDPs combine large galleries with scannable spec tiles and clear options. Accessibility was baked in with semantic headings, labelled controls, visible focus states, high-contrast colour choices and keyboard-friendly filters and galleries. Performance work included next-gen responsive images, lazy loading, server-level caching and selective plugin loading to keep the DOM lean and maintain fast LCP/INP/CLS. For SEO we implemented Product and Breadcrumb JSON-LD, human-readable slugs, internal linking between related models and category intros aimed at queries like “7-seat hot tubs”, “13-amp vs 32-amp hot tubs” and “energy-efficient hot tubs”.
